The Vestiges of the Prison
Discover
In brief :
Visiting the prison (penal colony) of Nouville, proposed by Alain Fort, heritage guide is a real step back in the time of prison deportation. Fort Téremba, in the town of Moindou is a true historic site, which traces the early history of colonization. In the southern end of the country, the village of Prony once lived to the rhythm of the convicts, then that of mining. Today, there are still some vestiges of those times in a town truly trapped among the banyan trees. On the Ile des Pins, except the cemetery of the deportees, the ruins of the prison are largely overgrown, which gives the place a particular character.
