The Whales
Watch
In brief :
From July to September is the season of Megaptera novaeangliae or, the humpback whale that come to breed in the warm waters of the Caledonian lagoon. A great opportunity to observe these large cetaceans mammals, up to 14 meters, thanks to the "Whale watching" trips. Leaving from Noumea, it is in the Baie de Prony (Bay of Prony) where the characteristic breath of humpback whales and their spectacular leaps out of water can be seen closer.
A charter of conduct is regulating the practice of "Whale-Watching" in New Caledonia. The distances of approach and a limited duration of observation per boat are regulated in order to minimize the disruptions in the lives of these marine mammals.
